Hi Deanne, Have just returned from my hols. My dad was really ill over the last week when he was in Spain and his face and neck swelled up substantially which was very worrying for him and my sister. They managed to get a flight home on the advice of Dads Oncologist and he was admitted straight into hospital on tuesday with superior vena cava obstruction (one of his swollen lymph nodes had severely restriced the blood flow through this vein). This morning he has had a stent inserted into his vena cava to enable the blood to run freely again and he is feeling fragile but better in himself. They have taken him off Tarceva until he has fully recovered from this setback. I have been so worried about him but hopefully he will be ok. I mentioned the possibility that Dad might have this problem to his Dr a while ago when he had some symptoms of SVCO but the Dr told my sister that Dad just had a cold with some nasal and eye congestion !!! They will keep Dad in hospital for a day or two to check that the stent is working and then he should be able to go home. Thanks for asking Deanne xxxxx

Hi Dawn I hope your Dad continues to feel stronger and recovers well from this setback. Strange how when we mention the possibility of what could be causing symptons they dismiss it? Did the same to Dave's Doc and was told not possible but it turned out to be possible. Why don't they listen to us? when we spend more time focusing on 1 specific person and their cancer we actually end up very knowledgable in their disease and how they are with it. Frustrating. Ros

Hi Ros I agree with you - I knew instinctively that there was something not right with my Dad but the Dr said it was the side-effects from a heavy cold. I was made to feel like I was over-reacting and a bit of a drama queen !! It is extremely upsetting - when you are close to someone you become very sensititve to their condition and can quickly pick up changes in them. I had researched his symptoms and I knew he could possibly have SVCO but the Dr totally dismissed it. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR very frustrating.

Hiya Dawn, What a total nightmare! So much for the Dr GRRRRRRRRRRRRR! You must be furious! So glad he is on the mend. I would be having words with the Dr...bloody sickens me that they just dismiss things!

Hi Sam, My Dad has been really poorly and was rushed into hosp for an operation to put a stent into one of his veins to allow the blood to flow freely. His swollen lymph node had been obstructing the blood flow and caused symptoms which were very frightening for him - breathlesness, swollen face and neck, dizziness to name but a few. Hope that the stent will help - it seems to be doing the trick- but it is purely a palliative measure. They took him off his Tarceva but I hope he can get back onto it soon. Thanks for asking. Hope things are ok with you and your Dad. Dawn x
