Hi I'm a new member, I have been looking through this brilliant website for the last 2 weeks and just plucked up the courage to introduce myself.......... I was diagnosed with nsclc last May, I had been in a lot of pain for over a year in my shoulder and was told it was just my age and not to worry about it. Anyway after a 2nd scan they discovered that I did have cancer and it had spread to my rib and the lymth node on my rib. I have had 2 courses of Chemo, but the last one showed the my cancer had grown, but thankfully not spread. Fortunately my hubands company provided us with private medical cover, so 2 weeks ago I started Tarceva. I do have a rash but only on my face, so I am hoping desperately that this rash is enough to hope that the tarceva may be working. Anyway it's great to be able to read about people going through the same as me, although obviously I wish you wern't. Thanks to you all for giving people so much hope and support.

Rosina, 1st of all I am so sorry that you are here but glad that you found the site. I know you will already have read that my husband Jimmy is on Tarceva and has been for over a year now. I am pleased to say that he is doing great ;D ;D ;D I hope that you do as well and for a long time! Thanks for posting and lots of continued luck fighting this disease! Jimmy had awful rash at first but it is now well under control. Stay strong and positive!
Love Deanne xxx

hi Deanne, thanks for that! reading this website does make me even more positive, it's just so great that Jimmy is doing so well, but a real heartache that everyone has to fight so much for something that should be their's for the asking or need. Still if everyone sticks together to fight the cause, perhaps things will be better in the future. My funding from private insurance is only for a few months, so if it works I will be looking to the NHS to fund future treatment. Anyway thanks to everyone for all the wealth of information and ideas on combating the side effects. Rosina x x

Hi Rosina
well hopefully you are going to great on Tarceva. I would advise that you use doxcecycline also as this helps control the rash. aslo use a moisturiser.

Hi Jim tried loads of moisturisers, but none seem to work. I resorted to baby nappy rash cream sudacrem yesterday and this seems to have calmed it down a bit, plus the doc has given me some Co-Amoxiclav antibiotics to treat the infected spots. Is doxcecycline a cream or antibiotics? Thanks jim x x

Hi rosina
i also tried quite a few moisturisers and it seemed only l`oreal worked but now i have found a cheaper one, but to be honest i do believe it is totally down to the doxecycline by the way it is a capsule, you take 2 on the first day and i daily after that and it does work a treat against the rash, you will have to get it prescribed.
