Hi All, Ange's sister Karen is running the London Marathon this year for the cancer charities below. I know we all give to our chosen organizations when we can but if anyone can spare a few pounds I have added the links below. Take care Duane www.justgiving.com/karenwestbrook for cancer research NW www.justgiving.com/karenwestbrook1 for Christie Hospital

Hi Deanne Karen's on schedule to hit her targets & the training is going well. We're all going to Egypt on Monday for a week & she's talking about having to do 15 mile training runs in the heat (that's dedication). Ange is really excited about snorkeling on the reef outside the hotel, she couldn't have done that before she started on Tarceva, (If anyone from NICE has logged on to this site). Has Jimmy any tips on the rash in the heat? a bad flare up is the one thing thats worrying her and the rash seems to be worse when shes hot. All take care, I'll miss this site next week. Duane x

Hi duane Egypt is beautiful i assume you are going to sharm ele shiekh? As for the rash i went against all advice and hit the sun big time but I must emphasise that I used factor 20 and 30 and worde a hat within a couple of days what a difference, the rash has subsided by about 80% then after a week it was gone , all hail the sun lol

Hi Duane, Hope you all have a fantastic time in Egypt. I was quite worried about Jimmy going in the sun becasue I had heard that it could have a bad effect on the rash. I think if you wear a sun block and are sensible you will be ok. I would recommend a hat too to cover the scalp, and of course keepthe skin well moisturised. The sun actually seemed to help Jimmy's rash, I am pleased that you are getting away from it all, it will do you a world of good!
Take care Deanne xxx

Hi All, back now after a week in Sharm. The sun or sea water, not sure which, did help Angie's rash but she took Jimmy's advice and always used factors 20 and above. Thanks to Tarceva Ange walked for at leased two miles along the beach then back again and easily swam over the hotel reef and saw all the sea life that we went for. The 1st question she is asked at the Christie hospital is "can she walk the length of a football pitch!!!!!!!!" How can this drug be denied to so many people. If you are being denied Tarceva feel free to print this off and show your consultant. On the Karen front, she did "some training" and assures me shes ready run. Take Care Duane xx

Hi Duane, So glad that you and Angie have a good time in sharm. The water and sea life there is fantastic! Which hotel did you stay in? Did you go into narma bay, if so hope you did not get too much hassle! Good to know that Ange coped with the Sun ok and that it did her skin good. Thanks for updating Duane and let us know how the Marathon goes.

Hi Deanne, we stayed at the Conrad which was brilliant but I have to mention on this site it had loads of steps everywhere and no lifts, Ange coped really well though & we were on the third floor!!!!! Before Tarceva she was out of breath climbing to the top of the stairs at home. Old Sharm was worse for hassle than Narma, walking down the side streets with two blond ladies and a teenage boy is not to be recommended but we still had the best of times. Enjoy your meal tonight, rest assured Ange, Karen & I will raise a glass to you both later. Take Care Duane xx

Hi Deanne, with what she's raised locally she's about to pass her targets so we're all really pleased. She's just got to run the 26 miles now ;D. Look for us on the TV at tower bridge, we'll be the ones wearing the Christie Tee shirts. ;D ;D ;D Take Care Duane xx

Hi Deanne, Karen finished this year in 5hrs 30mins, her best time is 4hrs 40mins but one of her team pulled back due to an injury so Karen helped him finish. Sponsor money is still coming in but with all thats promised she has raised at leased £4,000.00 for her cancer charities ;D. A big thanks to all who pledged. Ange & I went down to watch, it was a long tiring day standing in the rain but Ange never complained, walked miles and enjoyed every minute. She couldn't have done that a few months ago. ;D ;D ;D Take Care x
