I was just reading the symptoms of Lung cancer.
Kent only presented with three of them and only has two at present,
The cough, he has NO sputum
Weight loss.
He did have two colds last year which is most unusual for him. he never has colds. he had the incident where he coughed up a lot of blood which resulted in the trip to hospital for treatment (which he didn't get).
He is convinced it is the morphine he takes to suppress the cough which makes him tired, but then he has indwelling radiation for the prostate cancer, so this could be part of it also.
He is gaining weight again.
He has no other symptoms.

Hi Phillipa, The only symptom Jimmy had was chest and shoulder pain induced when he drank alcohol which lead us to believe it may have been a gastric problem?? They still did not give us any answers as to why alcohol would in crease the pain? They did not have any answers when challenged about that. It is amazing how symptoms vary. I suppose a lot depends on the location of the tumour as to what symptoms you get if any?

My Dad presented with weight loss and a very husky voice - he was also very tired all the time. I think you're right when you say it depends ont he location of the tumour, my Dads is in his lower left lobe. Dawn

No wonder it is not easily diagnosed and when it is, in some cases it is too late, perhaps they should review what they class as typical symptoms, right up until kent started coughing up the blood that night, he was diagnosed as COPD, yetnone of inhalers prescribed worked

Dave has Squamous cell and his symptons really only became apparent as his bottom right lobe collapsed due to tumour. He had weight loss, night sweats and generalised back ache and just feeling rough. I agree that the type and location of the tumour makes for a wide range of differing symptons and the best advice I would give anyone is insist on chest x rays and a scan + referral if you have one/any of the listed indicators of lung cancer, great if it turns out to be a chest infection but also great if you have an early cancer that can be treated successfully . Kent has squamous cell, right lobe collapsed, no night sweats ever everytime we go to the doctors they ask the same questions from the list of symptoms and nothing changes. kent remarked he feels the same now as he did when diagnosed.

my late wife actually lost her voice and thought she had contracted laryngitis, due to coughing, from smoking. Subsequent xrays revealed a very startling truth. LUNG CANCER

It amazes me how much the symptoms vary from person to person. It's quite scary actually!

Just an aside. Kent was looking at toes this morning, the nails are curling over. You have to see his toes. He has Marfans and histoes are like birds claws, the podiatrist described them as talons, now because of the clubbing at the tips, I doubt if he can perch on wire with them. Kent has the loveliest longest fingers I had ever seen, now the clubbing is really noticeable, so I guess his piano playing days are over. I never realised until now we could have had a caberet act, perching on wire playing a piano, darn, another missed opportunity.

Hi TV My Dad normally waits up to a week for the results when he has a CT scan as an out-patient. On the occasions he has been admitted to hospital and had scans the results were available quicker. The waiting for the results is the worst part, isnt it, but I am thinking of you and sending big hugs and prayers for good results. Dawn x

From me as well TV. We waited 2 weeks once for a CT scan on the NHS and 3 days for a PET scan privately. Coped with the latter but the former was hell! Thinking of you. Rotten time. Hang on in there. love Daisey

Hi I agree , the waiting is hell! You try to remain positive but the niggles keep popping up, Even though you quickly push them away. Fancy getting the news on New Year's Eve, what a terrific start to 2008. Hope your results are through quickly, and are good! Love Wendy

Thanks all for word of encouragement. Saw Mcmillan nurse when I went for Liver scan, she told me that the results from Bone and Brain scans were both clear. Yipee some thing to smile about. Get rest of the results on 28th January. Still seems so far away, and time seems to be going in slow motion.
thanks love to all Toothlessvenus
