I am a 51 year old man in, otherwise, good health (never smoked). I was diagnosed with stage 4 nsclc. The cancer had spread to my liver and parts of my skeleton. After doing some research and getting 2nd opinions, I was directed to Tarceva instead of the standard chemo.
Fortunately, my HMO was very willing to prescribe this as a first line treatment. I have been on it for 16 days. My cough, from an enlarged and cancerous lymph node has stopped. The mild pain in my hips has gone away and I feel good.
I am scheduled to have a CT scan in 2 weeks to determine if the Tarceva is improving my condition. The skin rash is annoying but a small price to pay if the Tarceva works.
I'll make another post after getting the results of the CT scan. Stay tuned...

Hi,
Welcome to this wonderful site, you’ll get so much support here when you most need it. I’m sorry to hear what you have been going through but glad that you have been recommended to take Tarceva its seems to be hugely successful so i hope that it makes a big difference for you.
Wishing you loads of luck for your CT scan.. thinking about you.

Hi
excellent news that you are getting the tarceva for 1st line treatment i am very surprised at that as people are still fighting for it for 2nd line. A big up to your Onc.
As for the rash its a bloody nuisance i still get flare ups after 10 months but i have found that taking doxcecycline and using mens loreal 24 hr moisturising cream this helps a lot , i also use one of those nylon exfoliators on my skin this helps keep down the spots also . they will subside in time but i suppose as everyone says its a small price to pay

Sharon I think this is first line treatment in the USA and not here. I argued for this way back when Obi was first diagnosed. They are so far behind the times over here.
