A third protest march against the smoking ban will take place in Bristol on 20 October. The march is being organised by south-west based karaoke and disco event organiser Chris Elliott and follows marches in Wells and Glastonbury in Somerset. “We feel the local pubs, some of which have been in business for hundreds of years, are at an unfair disadvantage,” he said. “There are several that do not have the space or the money to provide smoking shelters. "We also know of several that have provided a smoking shelter but are unable to use them on entertainment nights due to local council noise restrictions. “Some of the landlords accept that they may not be in business this time next year – the main contributing factor being the smoking ban.” Elliott’s personal fight against the ban centres on his right to smoke in his van – which is classed as a business vehicle. “We are flouting the law,” he said. In Glastonbury, a smoke-in involving 50 people was held after the march at one un-named pub and Elliott was issued with a fine for breaking the law. “I would like to stress that we are not pro smoking but pro choice,” he added. Is this Guy for real or What? ??
