Hi Thought that as not on tarceva any more I!d start to note my progress back here. Since coming off the wonder drug (just not for me) I had male pattern baldness - great and still having problems with skin!! Started on Docetaxol been for 3rd treatment today tolerating it very well no sickness but very bad water retention around my middle so after losing 2.5stone in hosp with pneumonia got roles around my middle - but have been told will go when treatment stops. I have been having cold cap to try & stop hair loss and is working, friends have said how much better I look since stopping Tarceva. I hope to have CT scan within next 3 weeks to see if working if so 3 more treatments so it!s fingers crossed 3rd time lucky for a successful treatment as I can't seem to find any other treatments. On a positive note as I don't allow negative ones for more than a minute a week I asked Onc this week that as I was given 12 to 18 months at the beginning and that will be beginning september what now answer was 'really can't say but you don't look like your going anywhere in a hurry!!' I am still working but very part time so can have more me time as do have tired days still doing everything at home only problem when only female and 3 males and I really don't look ill, my friend said other day after I had been for my nails done -silk wrap infills had a pedicure and had hair done I look better with lung cancer than rest of them my answer too many mirrors to pass not to look like the real me just wish could have my hair coloured!!!
Good luck to everyone on the site keep on smiling
Luv n hugs to all Sharon x x x

Hi Sharon
Just been reading your messages, sounds like you and I have been through exactly the same thing! only difference is my treatment on Docetaxel started on 23rd July. I am having a scan next friday to see if it is working after 2 treatments. My only problem has been a really low blood count on my white cells, so I am having injections each day for 5 days to try and bring my cell count back to normal. I'm so sorry to hear that Tarceva didn't work for you as with me, but have to say its reasuring to find someone else going through the same as I am. I, like you am very positive and to look at me you would not think there was anything wrong with me at all.
Anyway, good look with the treatment. I'm sure we will both have the same success as the people who are taking tarceva, no actually, convinced...........

Hi Rosina
Nice to hear not the only one tarceva not worked for but sorry for you - sure you know what I mean. Just get a chest infection soon sorts the white count out!!! To say docetaxol is supposed to be the worst of the chemo drugs tolerating very well much as last time but no side effects of pain at infusion no sickness or hair loss but am having cold cap this time very very succesful worth trying. Seem to get the big hit on day 4 after no sleep for 3 days due to steroids and of course no steroids on day 4 so today it's just sleep and do nothing except write lists of things to do! Good luck with the scan hope its working but as we both know it will be

Hi Sharon
Yeh the steroids are a real bitch, they would be great if you were'nt having chemo though, imagine all that energy when you were feeling normal. Wish I'd had the cold cap, as i'm now sporting, for the second time a bald head! Still it means I get an extra half hour in bed before going to work, as I don't have to faff about blow drying my hair.
Anyway, hope it all goes well with you. I'll be thinking about you, take care.

Hi Sharon/Rosina
well it seems as though you are both tolerating the docetaxol very well ,that will give hope to anyone that is going to take this. I think after reading this i would even consider going through this treatment myself when the Tarceva eventually stops working.so glad you both have positive minds it does go a long way.

Hi Jim
Well hopefully the Tarceva will continue to work well for you for many years to come. Your doing great on it and that is fantastic, long may it last which I'm sure it will because you also have a great positive attitude.
For others who may not gel with Tarceva, don't be afraid of Docetaxol, I'm having it with Carbiplatin, and it's no worst than one of my other treatments which was Cisplatin and Etoposide. The only difference is this treatment does or can give you a sore mouth and tongue. When I am having my treatment I keep my hands in a basin of ice and suck ice cubes, this really helps with the side effects.
anyway, I think this is a great site, and more importantly it's great for those who are using Tarceva and those of us who arn't. So thanks a million Jim and Deanne for setting it up. You are both stars!

Hi Rosina
yes hopefully it will but more than likely the body will create a resistence to it eventually but when that will be who knows? yes i have a great positive attitude thats what keeps me going , as for the site well it was all down to Deanne she founded it and did all the research so i cannot take credit for that .Nice to have you post regarding the Docetaxol it is good info for anyone having this treatment , actually anyone who reads this post should post their expereience either good or bad this will certainly assist anyone who is going to contemplate this treatment. keep up the good work. I have started a thread in treatment area if you would like to post your experience in there.

Hi there Jim and Deanne
Deanne your site is great, I'm know that everyone appreciates all your hard work. without you we would not be having this all important contact with each other, so thank you.
well I have just had my scan results, and the Docetaxol is working it's magic! My tumour has shrunk, so I can go on and have some more. So anyone out there who has been offered this treatment, please do try it. the side affects don't seem that horrendous, no more than other chemo really. But I am now completely without any pain at all and inbetween chemo, working 20-30 hours a week.
Jim I can't see why your body should build up resistence to tarcveva, and if it does, hopefully it will be in many years to come by which time something new and great will be on the market. Sharon I feel sure your scan results will be great too.

Hi Rosina
That is great news. It just goes to show that despite the horror stories that i have heard about Docetaxol that it can very work very efficiently and with success. so glad you are pain free and back to work also . great stuff.
