My husband has been on Tarceva since November 2008. Seems to be doing well - main side effect is a rash, firstly on his face, now on legs. Latest CT scan showed no progression of disease. He had pneumonectomy in January 2008, then 2 courses of chemo but developed pneumonia in middle of 2nd course so tarceva prescribed instead. He has private medical insuranc through his job so gets the drug privately but I have established through our PCT that they would continue to fund it in the event of him not going back to work, in which case private health insurance would cease.

Hi mary
the rash is the main side effect of the tarceva , it does get better once the body starts to accept the drug, does he take doxycycline anti biotic this helps control the rash also use a moisturiser daily this is also a big help. Yes the PCT will now fund the drug as long as it works long may it continue.

Hi Deanne, I am fighting to get my husband Tarceva as third line treatment at Ealing PCT in London. He is being treated at Charing Cross Hospital in London and was initially turned down we are now appealing and the panel meets in a couple of weeks. Thankfully we have a sympathetic and helpful Oncologist. I would be interested to know if anyone has had any success in getting Tarceva on the NHS in London - I have heard that Chelsea & Westminster PCT is funding it??
